Priti Patel, Conservative parliamentary candidate for Witham, has welcomed data released today showing that unemployment continues to fall in Witham as a record number of jobs are created in the UK.
Across the UK, there are now over 31 million people in work and in the Witham constituency unemployment has falled and is more than 60% lower than under Labour.
Youth unemployment in the Witham constituency has falled and is 65% lower than its peak under Labour. ONS figures also show that in the three months to February 2015, pay for employees has risen by 1.7% including bonuses and 1.8% excluding bonuses, which is faster than the rate of inflation.
Priti, who is also Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury, said: "The Conservative Party's long-term economic plan is delivering more jobs for the Witham constituency and for the country.
"Record numbers of people are in work, unemployment is falling, more young people are in work and wages are growing faster than inflation. Families and businesses in Witham are better off now than they were five years ago and we can continue to create more jobs and benefit from higher economic growth by electing a Conservative Government at the general election."
She added: "Our plan to keep cutting taxes, increasing apprenticeship places and backing British business will mean that over the next five years there will be more jobs and growth in the economy.
"Over the last five years, we have turned the economy around from the mess left by the last Labour Government and today's date demonstrates that our recovery has been secure and sustained.
"Witham cannot afford to have a change now and Labour's plans for highter taxes, more borrowing and a deal with the SNP will wreck the economy and put our record levels of job creation at risk."
