Tax cuts worth £825 per year for people in employment have been welcomed by Priti Patel, the Conservative Party's Parliamentary Candidate for Witham and Exchequer Secretary to the Treasury.
Workers in Witham will now be £825 per year better off as a result of increases in the personal tax-free allowance introduced by Conservatives in Government. Further changes enable workers to earn £12,500 tax free will be introduced in the next Parliament if a Conservative Government is elected, along with increases in the threshold at which the higher 40% rate is applied to £50,000.
Priti said: 'Conservatives believe in letting people keep more of what they earn and have already delivered a tax cut worth £825 to workers in Witham. A Conservative Government elected at the General Election on May 7th will continue to cut taxes for people in work while also lifting millions of low earners out of paying income tax.
'The Conservative Party's tax cuts are making a real difference to families across my constituency who are feeling the benefit of lower tax bills and having more money in their pockets to spend.
'These tax cuts are only possible because of the Conservatives' long-term economic plan, which is delivering the highest rates of economic growth in Europe and the creation of record numbers of jobs. All this would be put at risk by Labour, who want to tax people and businesses more, and would once again wreck the economy.'
Since coming to office in 2010, Conservatives have prioritised support for low and middle income earners by reducing their tax bills by £825 through increasing the personal tax-free allowance each year from £6,475 in 2010 to £10,600 from this month.
As a result of these changes, 3 million people across the country have been lifted out of paying income tax and 27 million have received a tax cut.
