Priti Patel, Conservative Party parliamentary candidate for Witham, has welcomed the Party's commitment to freeze regulated rail fares for the five year period of the next Parliament, which could save commuters hundreds of pounds.
Fares have already been frozen in real terms for the last two years, and with the Government's commitment for new investment in the Great Eastern Mainline to deliver a high performing railway, commuters from the Witham constituency will benefit from better services and better value for money on fares.
Priti, who was a member of the GEML Rail Taskforce (pictured above) which developed proposals to improve rail services, including faster and more reliable journeys and modern rolling stock, said: "Local commuters are already set to benefit from investment in upgraded infrastructure and modern rolling stock and the fare freeze will be welcomed by local commuters.
"Conservatives will deliver better rail services for local commuters in an efficient and cost-effective manner. The success of our long-term economic plan means that we can secure the long-term investment our local rail services need while protecting commuters from excessive fare rises.
"We all remember the inflation-busting fare rises under the last Labour Government year-on-year, which hit commuters hard, and commuters would also lose out under Ed Miliband, who would throw the rail network into chaos.
"By electing a Conservative Government, commuters will continue to save money and benefit from improvements in rail services."
