Witham MP Priti Patel has discussed her campaign for better broadband services in her constituency with the Government's communications minister, Ed Vaizey MP. The Superfast Essex programme has already received over £12 million of funding from central Government and is set to receive nearly £11 million more to provide 95% superfast coverage. Priti is campaigning to ensure rural areas in her constituency are fully able to access faster broadband speeds. Priti said:
“Access to fast and reliable broadband services makes a tremendous difference to rural communities. They enable rural businesses to thrive and families to access key services.
“Rural parts of my constituency are already benefitting from the Government's investment in providing superfast broadband speeds. However, there are still some localities which have not yet been upgraded and I discussed with the Minister how they could get connected sooner.
"My constituents want to be able to access modern broadband communications and I will continue to work with the Government, Essex County Council and service providers to get these services delivered across my constituency.”
The Minister, Ed Vaizey, added:
“Priti is championing her constituents and I was pleased to discuss her campaign for better broadband and how more homes and businesses can be connected.
"This Government is delivering the biggest investment programme in delivering faster broadband speeds to rural communities and my Department will work with her to see how we can get more of Essex and her constituency fully connected.”
